ASF (Active Safety Features)-It’s a feature in bike or a car that interacts with the driver, these features aim to maintain the driver safety and his comforts.

Air Bag-It is a safety bag that is situated in driver’s cabin,made of nylon fabric material that inflates quickly during the crash aiming to protect the driver.

AFS (Air Filtration system)-It is filter that suck the air and filter’s dust particle,smoke,smog and pollen, and pass it to inlet process.

ABS (Anti-lock Braking System)– It is a technology that resist the locking tendency of brakes during the sudden braking situation enabling driver to steer the vehicle.

Automatic transmission-A transmission system where the gears are shifted automatically generally uses planetary gear system, and clutch is replaced by torque converter.

Back firing-It is that condition where the unburnt fuel enters the exhaust system and ignites with a smaller explosion.

Cam– A metallic rod that is used in open and closing of valves mechanism.

Cabin-It is the compartment were the driver sits and has dashboard that holds all the control system within.

Carburetor-It is the component which mixes the air and fuel in particular ratio and sends it to inlet of an engine.

Catalytic converter-It is a component that reduces the harmful gases from the engine, and it is placed in exhaust system.

Chassis-It is the main structure the houses engine, car body, rear and front axle.

Convertible-Its a type of car where the top can be oped or reduced with some mechanism.

Coupe-Its a type of car with sloping rear, two doors and made stylish.

Crank case– it is a bottom part of engine housing crankshaft and oil supply.

Cylinder-It is cylindrical structure in the engine block where the combustion of air +fuel takes place.

Dashboard-It is a part made of fibers and holds tachometer, sound equipment, and other gauges making driver comfort.

Differential-It is a part of rear axle assembly where the power is transmitted from the drive shaft to wheels using gear train.

Disc brake-It is a braking mechanism where the brake pads are made to press against the rotating disc connected to the wheels.

Drive shaft-It is a long metallic shaft that connects the transmission and gear train in the differential aiming to transmit the power.

Drum brake-It is a braking mechanism where the curved brake shoe is made to press against the iron drum in the wheel.

Electronic transmission-It is a transmission system where the gears are shifted electronically,and has four forward and one reverse gear.

Engine block-It is a metallic block housing the piston, connecting rod, crankshaft ,valves etc.., to convert heat energy to mechanical energy.

Engine displacement– It is the total volume swept by the piston in the cylinder and expressed in terms cubic capacity.

FWD (Front Wheel Drive)-It is the condition where the power is transmitted to the front axle from the engine .

Front axle assembly-It is the combination of gears and drive shaft which makes the changes in the power and direction to the front wheel.

Four wheel drive-It is the condition where the power is transmitted to all the four wheels of the vehicle.

Fuel injector-Its a component the supplies fuel to the combustion chamber having the control over the fuel being consumed.

Gap-It is the gap between spark plug electrode and grounding electrode ranging from 0.6mm to 1.8mm.

Gears-It is metallic circular part with edge tooth that transmit power when connected with one another.

Hatchback– It is a sedan class model with the absence of trunk and facility of folding the rear seats enabling extra space.

Horsepower-It is the measure of power of an engine,it is the ability of an engine to move the vehicle.

Hydraulic brakes-It is a braking mechanism where the fluid pressure is used to push the brake pad against the brake disc.

Ignition system-It is the component that uses the electric charge to produce the spark in order to ignite the fuel.

Manual transmission– It is the transmission system that uses manual power to shift the gears and this mechanism uses drive train with gear in order to vary power and torque.

Mini van-It is a type of car that that is similar to SUV with back space, and widely used to transport goods inside the city/towns.

Muffler-It is a component that is used to eliminate noise in the exhaust system.

Normal aspirated-The engine that sucks air in the absence of turbocharger or super charger.

Oil pump-It is the component that is used to circulate oil under pressure to the moving parts of engine.

Oil ring-It is the bottom most piston ring that sweeps out oil in the cylinder walls and sends to oil pan.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)-Automobile parts that are manufactured by the other small scale companies ,supplied to main company and are also available in other retail shops.

Overdrive-It is a small gear box that is used to rotate the drive shaft with higher speed than the engine speed with low fuel consumption.

Oversteer-It is condition where the car wheel slips and lose traction due to quick steer and usually experienced in rear end drive.

Pickup van/truck-It is the type of vehicle where the rear part is open and cabin is closed, usually used to transport goods.

Piston-It is the cylindrical metallic part in the cylinder that moves back and forth during different movements of the crank.

Power train-It is bunch of items that is used to transmit power ,these includes engine,clutch ,gear box, drive shaft,differential etc.,.

Rack and pinion steering system-It is steering mechanism that uses toothed gear and toothed bar for the rotation of steering bar to produce angular movement of vehicle.

Radiator-It is the cooling component in the vehicle that cools down the engine coolant, engine oil and air.

Rear axle assembly– It is the combination of gears and drive shaft which makes the changes in the power and direction to the rear wheel.

RWD (Rear Wheel Drive)– It is the condition where the power is transmitted to the rear axle from the engine .

Redline-It is the maximum range of RPM where the vehicle can be operated safely and denoted by red mark on the tachometer

RPM ( Rotations Per Minute)-It is the measure of engine speed with respect to rotations of crank shaft.

Sedan-It is a type of car with passenger capacity of four people and has a separate trunk at rear side.

Side impact beams-This is a safety feature,there is a metallic beam in the door that is used to protect passenger from crash.

Spark plug– It is a component made of ceramic and has an electrode, used to produce spark in the combustion chamber.

Spark ignition system-It is an ignition system where spark produce by the spark plug is used to ignite the fuel.

Sports car-Basically it is a two seat car with a high speed,low ground clearance,very good suspension and with higher horsepower.

SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle)-It is a type of car with cargo space , generally four seat, there performance is good on off road (rough surface) than on normal roads.

Stabilizer Bar– It is an iron bar that connects left and right wheels either on front axle or rear axle for the fast cornering and body roll of vehicle.

Station wagon– It is a type of car that carry load on rear side and has an extra door, it has a longer body than regular.

Struts– This is the component belonging to the suspension system,it connects suspension to chassis helps to resist bouncing.

Suspension-It is a component that is used to absorb shocks produce due to irregular surface of road.

Tachometer-It is gauge the is used to measure the speed of the vehicle and displayed on dashboard.

Torque– It is the maximum force that an engine can produce at a specific speed.

Torque converter– It is a component that is used in place of clutch, and transfers torque produced by an engine to the drive shafts.

Traction– It is the condition that keep wheels on road and avoid slipping of wheels and gets full benefit of the power by the engine.

Trans-axle– It is present in front wheel drive vehicle, it is the combination of transmission system and the differential.

Transmission– It is the system of gears that is used to speed up or speed down the vehicle by the combination of gears.

Turbo-charger– It is the component,where one end is connected to engine output and other to input, and used to compress the air.

Under steer– It is the condition where the driver steer less than the required amount of turn. agment-

Unibody construction– It is the combination of car body and chassis ,made into single part ,other components are fixed to this body.

Valve-It is a component that controls the flow of charge(air+ fuel in petrol engines and only air in diesel engines), also used in outlet function of the exhaust.

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)– It is a 17 digits number with alphabet that is printed on dashboard that provides information on manufacturer ,model,year etc..,

Wheel base– It is the distance between center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel.
